On Saturday Nov. 15, I will help Calgary’s Owl’s Nest Books celebrate “Independents Day” with a book signing starting at 2:00 p.m. The store will have several of my titles on hand, including my latest, The Good Steward: The Ernest C. Manning Story. On Friday Nov. 21, I’ll be at Pages Books on Kensington, helping to launch The Story That Brought Me Here: To Alberta from Everywhere. Also reading with me will be fellow contributors Sudhir Jain, I.K. Ero and Mansoor Ladha. The event begins at 7:30 p.m. On Thursday Nov. 27, starting at 7:30 p.m., I’ll be doing the big launch of The Good Steward: The Ernest C. Manning Story at Pages Books on Kensington. WordFest 2008

On Wednesday, October 15, I had an opportunity to do my first public reading from my Ernest Manning biography. I presented it at WordFest 2008, the annual Banff-Calgary International Writers Festival. Also reading with me on the program were Caterina Edwards, Samantha Warwick and William Neil Scott. Caterina has just published Finding Rosa, a moving memoir about her mother’s struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. Samantha has published her first novel, Sage Island, about a young woman who finds salvation in swimming. William’s first novel, Wonderfull, is a magic realist tale inspired by Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s One Hundred Years of Solitude, where dead relatives play dominoes in the houses of their relatives.
