Publishing my novel-in-progress, Emigrant, chapter by chapter on this website has been a bit like carving a sculpture in a shop window. Passersby stop and stare, and sometimes offer “helpful” suggestions: “Hey, give him a smaller nose!” I don’t mind the suggestions, in fact I welcome them. But after taking another look at the early chapters I have decided to withdraw the draft from circulation, extensively rework it, and go back to making my mistakes in private. The work continues, but now in the second-floor home office I refer to jokingly as my garret. The shutters are drawn, the Wi-Fi is turned off, the editing pencil is sharpened, and the words are starting to sing. I’ll let you know when I think the manuscript is ready for public viewing again.Click here for reuse options!
