Room with no view

I came across a wonderful quotation recently. It’s from the great American author, Annie Dillard. It gives me a rationale for drawing the blinds whenever I write:

Appealing workplaces are to be avoided.
One wants a room with no view, so
imagination can meet memory in the dark.
